Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip

  • 220 reviews | 2,127 travellers
It was a very pleasant tour, we got to know the sites offered and there was enough time to visit them. The website says that the tour is in English but the guide also spoke good Spanish to us and that adds points. The guide is very friendly and explains the topics very well. The only negative point is that the audio guide in Spanish on the bus was not useful (personally it didn't affect me since I'm not much of an audio guide but I did notice that several people got upset about it).

Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip

The route from Munich to Harburg Castle and the city of Rothenburg is often referred to as Southern Germany's Romantic Road. When you take this wonderful trip you will find yourself in the heart of the idyllic forests and mountains of Bavaria.

After collecting you from the meeting point, we will begin our trip, heading deep into rural Bavaria. Our first stop is Harburg Castle. Here you have the opportunity to visit this beautiful 11th-century fortress at your own pace (entry not included). This extensive hilltop complex is considered to be one of the oldest and best conserved medieval citadels in Bavaria. Micheal Jackson even wanted to buy it, calling it "the castle of my dreams".

Our route then continues towards Rothenburg. To reach this small city, we will pass through the fascinating volcanic landscapes of the Suabia region which is abundant with fossils of prehistoric animals.

Finally, we arrive at Rothenburg, a medieval town which has been perfectly preserved over the centuries. The striking red tiles of the rooftops earn it the nickname 'Red Fort'.

We will explore the pretty cobbled streets and the enchanting old town, where you will encounter the 14th-century wall which we pass through via the old gateway to the city. You will also have the opportunity to stroll along the wall and even climb up to the top of the 200m Röedert Tower.

Following this tour, you will have your own free time to take something to eat and do some shopping around the wonderful narrows streets of one of the most beautiful locations in Germany.

Our return trip to Munich passes through Hallertau, the largest hop-growing area in the world. We will finally reach the original point of departure at around 7 pm.
